Friends for Life of America celebrates seven years of helping patients
GAINESVILLE, February 23, 2004 — Friends for Life of America started as the dream of a high school student who wanted to help pediatric patients living with leukemia. With the help of 50,000 students in four countries, Friends for Life of America is now the largest global student organization that serves pediatric cancer patients and their families.
"Over the past seven years, we have received tremendous support from students who recognize the importance of our mission," said Steven D. Cohen, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. "With a long list of beneficiaries and a strong record of helping children in need, we are very proud of our past. However, we are moving forward in an effort to touch the lives of patients all over the world."
Cohen formed Friends for Life of America in February 1997 after six-year-old
Daniel Heidenberg lost his life to leukemia. With the help of thirty-five
participating schools in the United States, Australia, Ghana, and Nepal, the
organization has raised more than $75,000 to benefit patients living with
cancer.
