About Hearts for the Holidays

Event Details
Who: Friends for Life of America sponsors Hearts for the Holidays.
What: Hearts for the Holidays is an event in which FFLA members and volunteers ask the local community to make holiday cards for pediatric cancer patients who must remain in the hospital during the holiday season.
Where: Tables with art supplies to make cards are set up on the Reitz Union Colonnade and in Turlington Plaza. Last year, the organization began a floating table, which appeared at locations, such as Gator Corner Dining Center, Broward Dining Center, Library West and the Southwest Recreation Center. FFLA also puts a table at local Publix grocery stores.
When: Hearts for the Holidays is held annually in December.
History: Hearts for the Holidays was founded in the fall of 2000 at a FFLA national board meeting. This will be the fourth annual Hearts for the Holidays at the University of Florida.

Target audiences
University of Florida students, faculty and staff - FFLA members and volunteers ask students, faculty and staff walking on campus to make cards.
Student organizations - FFLA gives card-making kits to other student organizations, so the members can make cards at their meetings.
Sororities and fraternities - FFLA announces at the sorority and fraternity houses to gain the support of the Greek community.
Local community residents - FFLA sets up tables at local Publix grocery stores to involve the local community around UF.

Achievements
- In the 2002 Hearts for the Holidays event at UF, FFLA collected 11,388 cards, which were sent to 45 hospitals across the nation.
-In the 2001 Hearts for the Holidays event at UF, FFLA collected 8,002 cards, which were sent to 35 hospitals across the nation.
