Camp Boggy Creek
All volunteers attending the 2nd Cancer Family Weekend of September 28 - 30, 2007 MUST attend the orientation that begins shortly after 2pm on arrival day. This means that we will be leaving campus NO LATER than 11:45am on Friday, September 28th. If you need a ride or are willing to give someone else a ride, please email Jessica.
This weekend's theme has yet to be announced. Be prepared to have lots of fun...and don't forget to get some rest before we head out. You will not baby-sit, but will soon find out that you will be PLAYING WITH KIDS!!!!
Camp Boggy Creek is a camp specifically designed for children with chronic or life threatening illnesses and allows them to safely enjoy the activities of a traditional camp. Between early morning swims and evening campfires, children whose lives have been a series of medical procedures and hospital stays are given the chance to just be kids. Check out the Boggy Creek webpage for more information.
Due to the excess of volunteers each semester, our group can only hold 10 spots each semester. The groups going in Fall of 2007 have already begun the application process. We will keep you updated with any further information as the event approaches.
If you're interested in going in the Spring, fill out the application available on the webpage here. You must include a clearly written email address for yourself (page 1) and 3 non-family/non-friend reference email addresses (page 3). All new or first time volunteers need to have a current TB test within the last 12 months of your arrival to Boggy Creek. There will be a 10-15 min. phone interview with each new volunteer. All volunteers MUST attend the orientation which begins shortly after 2pm on arrival day.
Everyone is invited to fill out an application, even if you can not make it during this weekend, you can still attend any other weekends that work better with your schedule. Returning volunteers can fill out a Returning Volunteer Application. Contact Robin Brubaker at rbrubaker@boggycreek.org. Boggy Creek is an amazing experience, and everyone should make an effort to make it out to one of their weekends. Please check the application for any other requirements that you must meet to be a volunteer and the dates of other weekends.
